Leaking Residential heating oil USTs.

At CSM, PLLC, we specialize in providing the consulting services to comply with the applicable State UST reporting regulations and to assist tank owners to quickly qualify for, and receive the allowable State reimbursement on leaking tank sites.

  • Residential heating oil USTs, less than 1,100 gallons in size, are not subject to NC Department of Environment and Natural Resources (NCDEQ) environmental regulations unless they are found to have leaked or are confirmed to be leaking.

  • Once a residential heating oil UST is confirmed to be leaking or confirmed to be the source of an underground or surface release of fuel oil, the NCDEQ-UST has very specific guidelines to address the environmental impact associated with the leaking tank.

CSM Environmental, PLLC will coordinate the entire UST removal project, providing and supervising an experienced excavation contractor to empty and safely remove the tank, perform removal of the impacted soils and restore the former tank area to grade. The CSM geologist will collect the necessary field data and soil samples to complete the required State reports and to obtain the allowable reimbursement from the leaking UST Trust Fund. Typically, the removal of a leaking residential tank, excavation of the affected soils, backfilling and restoration of the site takes 1 to 2 days.
